A healthy work out habit to create is to always listen to your body. Working up a good sweat, getting your heart really pumping and feeling the burn in your muscles are normal reactions to working hard, but sharp, sudden pains or throbbing joints are not. If you don’t listen to these important body signals when they happen and you don’t stop what you are doing, you can risk serious injury, which will definitely set back your progress. Also, if post workout pains don’t ease after a few days off with the rest and ice, it’s time to go see a doctor. Any signs of swelling, discoloration or numbness are an alarm that something is wrong and needs to be checked out. You are your best coach and trainer, so don’t ignore the messages your body is telling you.
